Eurotrip Part I: Venice

This winter, my husband and I decided to take a trip around Europe. I’d only been to England before, and he’d only been to Europe on a somewhat rushed Contiki tour in 2004 (right before we met!),  and we’d always talked about doing it together someday. So, since I’d already decided to go to the UK for a concert (more on that story later), we tacked on a Eurotrip where we could just wander around and do our own thing, and see the cities we wanted to see, at our own pace. And living in South Africa worked out perfectly, because it meant that I had a break from weddings in our winter, while being able to go to Europe in the lovely summer weather.

My first stop on our European holiday was Venice. Ah, Venetzia. I flew to Rome, and then got a connecting flight to Venice. I got the first two pics out of my plane window. NOTE: A camera shutter sounds really loud on a quiet aeroplane, and everyone will turn around and stare at you.

And then, Venice. It’s gorgeous, and one of the best things is No Cars! It’s so great to be able to wander through the streets with right of way. Actually, scrap that. Large parties of tourists, led by someone with a hat/flower/butterfly/umbrella on a long stick have right of way. Mostly because it’s easier just to let them go, see where they’re going, and then go be somewhere else. :-)

Of course, SOMEONE had to go one better with the pigeons…but he’s my hubby and I love him. :-)

One of many terrible self-portraits we took. I was too scared to hand my camera to a stranger!

  1. Sigh…. I’m so jealous! It’s really gorgeous. On my “TO GO TO” places.

  2. These are gorgeous Kat! The toning looks like a work of art, looks like you had a fab time!

  3. Wow, gorgeous photos (of course)! I’m especially impressed by the ones from the plane- I’ve never had a photo from a plane turn out well. I was lucky enough to visit Italy when I studied abroad in 2007 but I didn’t get to see Venice. I SO want to!

    • A few people have told me that, but they must have done a bit of a clean-up, because it certainly didn’t stink when i was there! Thank goodness :-)

  8. Kat, these are gorgeous! I loved Venice, beautiful but I wasn’t into photography then and my pics don’t look anything like yours! Just gorgeous! I’ll go back someday with a real camera….LOL
