Nicky & Gibbie: Trash the Dress

October 30, 2010

Nicky and I were in the same class in matric, but we probably never would have kept in contact if it weren’t for Facebook (I love Facebook). Nicky and Gibbie were married last year in October, and decided to do a Trash the Dress with me as an anniversary celebration. I think it’s a great idea on so many levels: (a) it gives you the chance to dress up in your wedding best again, have some fun, be in love, and generally get some great portraits of yourselves; and (b) even if you don’t put on the wedding dress and suit again, you can still get some fabulous couple photos to document this stage of your lives. Nicky requested graffiti, and I begged them to use the Nelson Mandela Bridge as well, as I’d been dying to shoot there, so we did both! We went way overtime because I was just having so much fun…my favourite kind of shoot!

Lydia & Nicol: Couple Shoot at Sammy Marks

October 25, 2010

Lydia had seen some of the photos I’d taken at the photographer get-together at Sammy Marks earlier this year, and immediately knew that was where she wanted her and Nicol’s couple shoot to be! I, of course, will never say no to ruins, so off we went. On arrival, I discovered something I loved even more than the ruins – the big rainbow umbrella they’d brought with. It was obsession at first sight!

Lydia and Nicol were the cutest couple, and Lydia could laugh at the drop of a hat – and if there’s one thing I love (almost as much as ruins and rainbow umbrellas), it’s a natural laugh. Yes…I loved pretty much every single thing about this shoot!

Engagement: Fiona & Keeran

Fiona and Keeran just recently got engaged, and I had so much fun doing their e-session! These two were great to photograph – so much fun, so much in love…and so much laughter!

Wedding: Kylie and Barry at Tres Jolie

October 18, 2010

Kylie and Barry were married this weekend at Tres Jolie in Ruimsig, near Muldersdrift. Such a lovely couple, who let us play with them for ages… “Ooh! Look at the light! One more! Oh, that tree is gorgeous! Just one more!” etc etc. Kylie looked absolutely breathtaking (red hair and blue eyes? Yes please!) and Barry looked dashing in his kilt, even through all the teasing about which one of them was wearing the dress (mostly from the minister!). :-)

Thanks to Juanette for second shooting for me again! We always seem to get the redheaded brides. :-)

Here are some of my favourites from their day:

Jackie & Mark: Wedding at the Indaba Hotel

October 12, 2010

This wedding was a first for me! Jackie and I were at school together, and so it was my first time photographing the wedding of someone I actually knew. And what fun it was! Jackie is also the first bride I’ve had who dressed herself.  “No one else is ready, so I’m getting into my dress!” she said, and proceeded to do so. Awesome.

Jackie and Mark, you guys are so sweet and so obviously crazy about each other – I wish you a lifetime of happiness!

Trash the Dress with horses

October 10, 2010

Remember Angel, whose wedding I second shot back in July? She decided to organise a fun photographer get-together trash the dress shoot, with HORSES. When she originally emailed to ask if I wanted to be a part of it, the only obvious answer was “heck yes!” The shoot took place at Glen Austin Stables, and Angel’s friend Meryl organised her gorgeous, beautiful and so-sweet-I-just-wanted-to-throw-my-arms-around-them horses for the shoot. Three fearless brides in pretty white dresses and boots completed this afternoon of fun. Here are some of my photos!

Wedding: Kyra & Nick at Battlefields Lodge, Dundee

October 1, 2010

I knew from their engagement session that Kyra and Nick were lots of fun, but they surpassed themselves on their wedding day! Kyra couldn’t stop smiling and laughing, the bridal party were so much fun, and the guests completely rocked! Kyra and Nick were so happy and so in love every minute, even the freezing cold 5pm wind couldn’t dampen their excitement! Neither could the fact that the bridesmaids dresses arrived the day before, half-sewn and unfinished – and apparently unsalvageable. Kyra’s awesome sister Taryn had to drive to Newcastle on the morning of the wedding to buy new dresses – and they looked like they’d been MADE for the wedding!

Thanks to Juanette for second shooting so beautifully, and for driving and providing yummy muffins :-)

I was so excited when I saw this gorgeous decor!

I adored Kyra’s ring, as my engagement ring is also tanzanite surrounded by diamonds.

Kyra and Nick had one of my engagement photos printed on canvas for everyone to sign! I love this trend lately.

This dog belongs to the venue, and decided to have a nap on the edge of the dance floor. The ring-bearer thought it was a good idea too.
