Cathy & Sean: Wedding at Kuthaba Lodge

January 31, 2011

This was the perfect wedding to end off 2010. Not only because it was AWESOME (it was), but because Cathy is the cousin of Craig, of Craig & Jade, who were my first wedding of 2010!  So in a way, I bookended the year with their family :-)

The wedding was at the gorgeous Kuthaba Lodge, and although rain threatened, it held off, and just gave me some gorgeous clouds to play with. Cathy and Sean were up for anything – climbing into the ancient old fig tree was their idea, the second tree was mine, and the river paddling was theirs again. I have so much fun with fun couples like them!

My 2nd shooter was the wonderful Juanette Van Schalkwyk. We were both exhausted after this, because we’d each had a wedding the day before, so I have to give a huge shout out of thanks to my husband, who drove us to Kuthaba and back while we slept in the car!

The handcuffs have a story… Cathy and Sean met when he came over to her at a bachelor party and handcuffed himself to her – and then pretended he didn’t have the key!

Wedding in Llandudno, Cape Town: Chris & Judy

January 31, 2011

When I contacted Cape Town Photographer Monica Dart and asked her if she had any weddings I could shoot with her while I was in Cape Town, she suggested Chris and Judy’s intimate home wedding. What she didn’t tell me was that Chris is a world-renowned photographer! Nothing like a bit of pressure for my first wedding in Cape Town. :-) The second I met Chris and Judy, though, I was completely put at ease. They are both incredibly warm, funny and wonderful people, and their wedding was the epitome of chilled and laidback – not to mention full of the love of family and friends.

You can see Monica’s photos of the day here and here. Moni, thank you SO, so much for letting me second shoot for you. This wedding was an incredible experience.

Chris requested we get a shot of Judy coming round a certain corner of Chapman’s Peak in the vintage Mercedes he’d organised for her.

The wedding took place at their holiday home, Villa Lara, in Llandudno.

It was one of the hottest days of the year in Cape Town, so it’s unsurprising that everyone ended up around the pool. I kind of wished I could join them. :-)

Bronwen & Tienus: Wedding

January 27, 2011

Bronwen and Tienus were my second last couple for 2010. I knew from their engagement shoot that they were (a) incredibly cute and in love, and (b) really photogenic, so I was really looking forward to their wedding! The ceremony was held at St Martins in the veld (gorgeous), and we took some photos there before heading over to the Indaba Hotel for more photo time and the reception. Bronwen & Tienus were so much fun to photograph, and they weren’t deterred by the way all their balloons popped last time, and brought some more to play with. :-) The reception was a blast, too! Thanks so much for letting me be a part of it!

My second shooter for the day was Annamari Devantier.

Bronwen’s makeup was done by my favourite make-up artist ever, Sam Scaife of Lashline. She’s super talented and such a sweet person.

Iron Fist shoes! Oh Yes. I got so excited when I saw these… I LOVE Iron Fist. If you look back at my anniversary photo shoot, those cute red & black heels with the bow are Iron Fist too.

I am so lucky. This was all THEIR idea! What bride climbs onto the edge of an infinity pool and splashes around before the reception? Or even before the rest of the photo session? Awesome clients like Bronwen and Tienus, that’s who. :-)

A few months ago, on the other side

January 19, 2011

November and December were utterly crazy. Insane. I’m still slightly behind on the blogging side of life, but I’m finally catching up with that.  And now that things are calming down (fractionally; I’m still editing up a storm), I remembered a few personal blog posts I never got to do. I really wanted to share today’s post about two months ago, but time just got away from me.

On the 31st of October 2010 my husband and I celebrated our two-year anniversary, and we decided (about a week in advance) to go down to Cape Town for a few days. Whereupon I had the brilliant idea of having a photo shoot done by one of my favourite Cape Town photographers, the talented and incredibly sweet and awesome Nikki Meyer. The day we settled on was cold and windy as can be (my hairband blew off about four times), but we had so much fun! I can’t recommend enough having photos taken with your family – and I’m not just saying that because I’m a photographer. These are just going to be such a wonderful reminder of how we were at this time in our lives. :-)

You can see Nikki’s blog post here. And these are some of my favourites:

Astrid & Craig: Wedding at the Botanical Gardens

January 4, 2011

Craig and Astrid were married just over a month ago at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. Because they’ve been so patient waiting for their blog post, I decided to add in a few more images than usual. :-) Not that it was difficult…in fact, I had difficulty narrowing their photos down to just these! Every single picture I got was full of smiles, laughter, happiness and FUN. Add to that an awesome bridal party and a couple somewhere between in love and in delirium, and you have the perfect wedding. Thanks to Melanie Wessels for assisting me on this one again!
