Cheryl & Mark | Wedding at Avianto

Cheryl and Mark were so wonderfully relaxed and fun on their wedding day. They were up for anything! Avianto is a beautiful Tuscan-inspired venue in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg, so we had lots of beautiful backdrops for their wedding photos. Again I was second-shooting for Tanja Vogt Photography.

Bear with me; this sword is going to make a lot of appearances in this post. And I love swords. They’re so swashbuckly :-)

I HAD to use the sword as a prop to get a great “ring shot”!

Yes, the butterfly is real. And perfectly-timed!

Cheryl wanted a shot of her pretending to slay Mark. They were such fun!

And the sword appears for cake-cutting again…

Oh no he didn’t!

I love Mark’s face here. Sooo nonchalant. “What do you mean ‘I’m smashing cake in your face’, honey?”

Thnk you, Mark and Cheryl, for being such fun and willing participants in our photo madness!

Wonderful Job Kat!! My favorite is the ring shot (very creative!) and the one at the very end with the light streaming from between the couple… it looks like their heads are making a heart in between them! SO pretty! :)

Keep doing what you’re doing! :)

love the shoot! love the word swashbuckly!!! :)

Oh, these are gorgeous! Love the rings on the sword. The photo of them coming out with the rose petals flying is my favorite of the bunch.

Nala: Aw, thanks, I thought it was pretty too :-)

Thank you, Mary! I also love it :P

Thanks, Beth! There was certainly a ton of confetti!

    Thanks, Kenzie!

While I think you take absolutely amazing pictures, can I offer one wee bit of advice? The red slippers in your logo tend to distract the eye a little (well, my eye anyways). In some of the pictures, it looks like the bride is awkwardly wearing the slippers. Again, beautiful, beautiful pics!

  7. Kat Forsyth says:

Jyl, I really appreciate your advice! I only put the logos on yesterday, and so they are still kind of a work in progress. I actually shifted them up further onto the picture because I thought it looked better, but now I see what you mean! I’ll try them out not over the pic at all and see how it looks! Thanks for taking the time to tell me what many other people might be thinking too :-)

    Found you via CakeWrecks :)

My fave from this shoot is the one with the bridal party and the bride and groom are NOT in the center… never seen anything like it! Who knew the bride and groom didn’t have to be in the center !?

Okay, okay, so I recognize that I possess a perverted mind, but “Mark offered Cheryl his sword during the ceremony” is totally some awesome Shakespearean innuendo if ever I’ve heard it. Totally unintentional, I’m sure, but it cracked me up nonetheless.

Ahem.. my immaturity aside, beautiful images of a beautiful wedding. :)

    Mary: Heehee. :-)

    Hi Kat,

Cheryl directed me to your blog & I was very excited to see some photo’s at last!

I’m Mark’s dad & the sword was his 21st birthday present. If you’re interested, it was made by the only 2 master bladesmiths in the southern hemisphere. They’re based in Belfast & can be found at ww,heavinforge.co.za where you’ll see some more shots of the Guardian (the name of the sword) as well as some of their other knives. Heather has a passion for ethnic blades & the new Wilbur Smith book “Assegai” features her blades on the cover. Kevin & Heather are currently making a knife for my daughter’s 21st (a Persian Kard from the 11th century) that promises to be just as stunning, with a blade forged from 20 000 fold Damascus steel (the sword blade is 288 folds). Please also visit http://www.kgsa.co.za – this is the page of the knife makers guild of SA & contains some stunning blades.

If you want to talk to a fanatical knife collector, call me on 083 287 1588 or find me on Facebook.

    Cheers,
    Martin Reeves

Hi Martin! Sorry I took so long here – I wanted to thank you for your comment and all the info! Someday I’m going to have a sword just like Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride…those might be just the people to make it!
(when I have money to spend on swords, that is) :-)

  13. Martin Reeves says:

The Guardian was valued at R50000.00 three years ago. What’s your profit margin?

There are other knife makers who make swords though.

    Cheers,
    Martin
