Simone: Bridal

For years I belonged to a classic film society whose meetings were held at the Johannesburg Museum of Military History, and I always thought it would be such a gorgeous place to do a vintage-inspired photo shoot! Well, on Monday, I finally made it happen. I’m beyond excited about the results – Simone is such a natural poser, and so graceful (maybe I should also do yoga every day…), so she really made it easy!

These are beyond incredible! :) I wanted to let you know though that photos #3 and 4 aren’t showing up for us, they just say “blog copy”.

  2. Kat Forsyth says:

Thanks, Sarah – I was working on it as your comment came through – I always check that they’re all there now! They should be back up now.

I really love the last one that shows that the gown allows light to pass through. The bride, the dress, the pose, the airplane, it’s stunning. Beautiful work.

  4. Kelly says:

    Beautiful!

  5. Yelena says:

The last one is stunning! Actually I love the post-processing on all of them.

  6. Korey says:

These are BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the last one with the view of her legs through the dress. SO pretty. That dress is gorgeous, too, very old-fashioned and unconventional.

  7. Tasha says:

I love that you used the plane as the backdrop it’s so much fun, and it most definitely gives a vintage feel to the shots.

Kat you are seriously blowing my mind. I can’t believe this is one of your first shoots! Those last two in particular. Wow. Wow wow wow.

I’ve gotta know? Are the poses you or the bride because they are fantastic.

I wish I could say they were me, but the truth is they were probably 80% her and 20% me. She was sooo, so graceful and elegant. I would say, ‘Stand there and put your arm up’, and everything else came from her! A lot of the time all I did was direct her eyes (“Look up, look down”) and the rest she just did automatically. I was envious, because I know that I’m not a natural poser myself!

She’s probably the easiest person I will ever work with!

They’re great Katherine! You’re going to do so so well. Congrats!

  10. Wow – those pictures are gorgeous, you’ve got quite the talent! I love her hair and her dress, it’s so stunning yet simple at the same time.

I wish I could take pictures like you! lol However, I’m best with a disposable camera…lol.

    Cheers!

Wow, these are amazing Kat! I really want to do a shoot at an old aircraft hangar one day, but I have no clue where to fnd one. You’ve inspired me to add it to me ‘locations for shoots’ excelt spreadsheet (I’m not even ready for clients at all and I am already mapping out what sort of personalities to take where).

  12. Hannah says:

Also, did you do some of the sun flare in post processing?

  13. Kat Forsyth says:

Hannah – I was keen to shoot there so I asked Simone to do it there! Heheh. And the sunflare was all real, though it took many shots to get the rays just right! All I did was warm it up in post-processing to make it a bit more yellow/orange, because it comes out white. Thanks for the compliments!

  14. Oh man! A killer plane AND South Africa?!? Not fair!

  15. Kat Forsyth says:

Funny thing is, I see these awesome things on American blogs all the time, and go, “I wish WE could do that here!” So go figure. Thanks!
